Service Technical Writer
Job Summary:
The Technical Writer will be responsible for writing and editing service documentation. Products will include, but are not limited to: Product support manuals, installation manuals, knowledge based articles and upgrade guides.As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on projects within an Agile development environment and collaborate with team members of multiple departments and technical backgrounds.
Essential Functions:
- Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication.
- Maintain the information architecture and repository
- Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing production methods, referring to technical specifications, engineering illustrations, as necessary to help authorized service providers regarding the products, systems, etc
- Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase service provider understanding
- Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals or online videos
- Standardize content across platforms and media
- Revise documents over time to reflect lifecycle changes in products
Qualifications:
- 3+ years in a technical writing role for technical, mechanical and/or consumer product documentation
- Demonstrated experience delivering high quality, detailed documentation
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical/mechanical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
- Excellent written skills in English
- Expertise with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator and Photo Shop
- Experience working within a Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), software development practice, and/or a formal Product Development Process (PDP)
- Experience using, organizing and maintaining a content/document management system is a plus
- Experience in a technical service/support role is a plus
- Working knowledge of fitness equipment is a plus
- Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks Composer is a plus
- Experience writing computer scripts to automate the creation of documentation pulled from multiple, complex sources is a plus.
Education:
- Associate's or Bachelor's or equivalent preferred
Working conditions (info on conditions out of the ordinary such as extensive travel, high noise level, frequent lifting, etc.):
- Standard office environment
- Occasional travel may be necessary
- Occational individual or team lifting
Hours required per week: 40+
