Lead Engineer

Job Summary:

  • Process & Procedure
    • Support and implement PDP, ECN/ECR, and other process, procedure
    • Prepare, schedule and lead PDP tollgate reviews
    • Mentor other Engineers on how to effectively implement engineering process and procedure
    • Use risk assessment tools for all engineering projects
    • Interactions between engineering, cross-functional groups, and external companies across all engineering processes
  • New Product Development Projects
    • Lead high-risk new development projects
    • Coordinate with the Engineering Management to understand project goals
    • Develop and manage the project schedule and budget
    • Drive feedback from PD, Marketing, Sales, Management, etc. to develop and evaluate project specifications
    • Lead cross-functional work with Marketing, Sales, Technology, Service, Quality, Testing, Warehouse and Industrial Design to ensure project specifications are met
    • Drive communication with manufacturing to develop, prototype, and evaluate design concepts
    • Responsible for critical design analysis, including (but not limited to) concept selection, DFM, FMEA, GD&T, test plan generation, dynamic and static loading, packaging, agency compliance
    • Ensure new products are engineered with appropriate structure, components, and materials
    • Incorporate DFM and DFA principles into new product designs
    • Work closely with the Technology and Testing groups to ensure appropriate electronics, wiring, and software designs are being considered and included
    • Manage day-to-day project communication and issue tracking lists
  • Current Product Improvement Projects
    • Gather information and concerns from Quality and Service
    • Monitor and understand production inspection reports
    • Lead discussions with manufacturing to make improvements to address SCAR, Quality, and Service concerns
    • Review and manage relevant ECN/ECR
    • Work with Service and Quality to understand implementation schedule and backwards compatibility concerns
    • Provide ECN/ECR approval
  • Project Workload
    • Multiple major projects
    • Multiple small (quality, running change) projects, often in parallel with a large project
    • Provide subject matter expertise and experience in support of other PD projects
  • Travel
    • Define and schedule appropriate travel that aligns with the project schedule(s)
    • Travel domestically & internationally for new product development and production needs
    • Attend customer sites, as needed
    • Attend and report on trade shows, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Required Qualifications
    • BSME or MSME
    • 5 years minimum experience in consumer products preferred
    • 1 year minimum experience in project management
    • 4 years minimum in fitness equipment
    • Exceptional communication and project management skills
      • Email, PowerPoint, Excel
      • Project schedule tools, Microsoft Office preferred
      • Ability to lead teleconference and face-to-face cross-functional meetings
    • Technical skills
      • 3D CAD, Solidworks preferred
      • FMEA & Test Plan generation
      • Experience in machine design, linkage design, and power transmission required
