Job Summary:

  • Work with internal staff to obtain in-depth understanding of product suite and the documentation needs
  • Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
  • Produce consistently high-quality, standardized documentation appropriate for its intended audience
  • Generate simplified images for technical documents from original detailed engineering drawings
  • Write clear and concise content for assembly guides, service manuals, and online help
  • Create and present tutorial material as necessary to help end-users use the products, systems, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Be the technical writing link between the service department and product development
  • Create, develop, plan, write and edit operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication.
  • Create and maintain the information architecture and repository
  • Identify and understand service and technical documentation needs
  • Study product samples, and talk with product designers and developers and review existing content
  • Manipulate 3D engineering models and create product images for use in paper as well as e-documentation
  • Revise existing documents throughout the product's life cycle and publish modifications


  • Proven working experience in technical writing of packaged goods documentation, ideally for products requiring assembly by the consumer
  • Adept in delivering high quality documentation, paying attention to every detail
  • Quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
  • Excellent writing proficiency in the English language
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience working within a Product Life Cycle Process and/or formal software development practice
  • Experience with Adobe tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Experience with tools such as SolidWorks, eDrawings, SolidWorks Composer
  • Experience in a technical service/support role is a plus
  • Working knowledge of fitness equipment is a plus
  • Strong experience with an enterprise wiki such as Confluence is a plus


  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred
